Welcome to Lihue, Hawaii.
Lihue is the largest town on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai in Hawaii. Lihue means literally "cold chill" in Hawaiian. It is a census-designated place (CDP) and the county seat of Kauai County. As of the 2000 Census, the CDP had a total population of 5,674.
Lihue is located along the southeastern coast of the island, between Hanamaulu and Puhi. There is a lot to see and do in the Lihue area, including the island's largest shopping centers and fine dining.
There are three golf courses located in Lihue, and one of those has been named in the top ten best nine hole courses in the U.S. You are just minutes to the entire east and south coast beaches and swimming, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, shelling, windsurfing and more.

Lihue is served by the Lihue Airport. The main seaport for Kauai is at Nawiliwili Bay, directly southeast of town.
The town is home to the county administration building; Kauai's largest shopping center, Kukui Grove Center, which houses the island's only big department store, Macy's; and several big-box stores including a K-Mart and a Home Depot. There are also several car dealerships and restaurants. Most of the island's traffic lights can be found here.
Lihue is home to the Grove Farm Homestead, one of Kauai's oldest plantations. This 80-acre estate has the original family mansion, workers' quarters and many acres of beautiful gardens of tropical flowers and plants. The Kilohana Plantation is also open for tours and contains some of the nicest shops and art galleries on Kauai.
You can ride in a horse drawn carriage along garden paths and tour the plantation's 34 acres. Other places to visit while in Lihue are the Kauai Museum and the Kauai Lagoons. Nearby attractions includes the Huleia National Wildlife Refuge, Kalapaki Beach, Ninini Beach, and the beautiful Wailua Falls.
